Springfield Cardinals News Release

The Springfield Cardinals got back in the win column on Wednesday night, winning for the sixth time in their last seven games, after a 5-3 victory over the Tulsa Drillers at Hammons Field. The Redbirds (38-27) remain one game back of Northwest Arkansas, now with just five games to go in the regular season.

Cards' starter Justin Fiske was sharp for a second straight outing, allowing just one run over six innings for his fourth win of the year.

The Cardinals broke a 1-1 tie, scoring four times in the bottom of the sixth inning against Tulsa starter Josh Hall (0-2).

With two on board and one out, Andrew Brown singled home Allen Craig, giving the Cards the lead for good at 2-1. Two batters later, Donovan Solano ripped his first Double-A home run, a three-run blast to left to give the Cards a 5-1 lead.

The Drillers got two in the eighth against Marco Gonzalez, making it a two-run game at 5-3. Fernando Salas came on and not only got the final two outs of the eighth, but retired the side in order in the ninth, earning his league-leading 25th save of the year.

Fiske (4-0) earned his second straight win, allowing one run on five hits, striking out five batters over six innings.

Josh Kinney, making his second rehab appearance with Springfield, used just seven pitches in a scoreless seventh inning. Kinney fanned two over his one scoreless inning.

With just two games to go at home, the Cards will look to make it five of six on the current home stand, sending Brandon Dickson (3-1) to the mound on Thurdsday night against Tulsa's Keith Weiser (0-2). Thursday night is Drury University Night here at Hammons Field, as 1,000 fans will receive a Red Panthers/Cardinals. Gates open at 6:10pm and game time is 7:10pm.

Don't forget that the regular season finale at Hammons Field is on Friday, as the 2008 campaign concludes with a ton of great giveaways and an AM Pyrotechnics Fireworks Display!
