Cards Split Double Header, Jupiter Gets First Win

JUPITER, FL- The Palm Beach Cardinals split tonight's double header with the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Stadium. Winning the first game convincingly 14-2, then following with a tough one-run loss.

The Cards' bats caught fire in the first game, collecting 14 hits as a team, including a first inning grand slam over the center-field wall courtesy of OF Nick Longmire (1). OF Anthony Garcia (3-3, HR, 4RBI, BB) also contributed a 2-run shot in the fourth marking his second homer of the year.

James Ramsey (2-5), Colin Walsh (3-4, 2B, RBI), Juan Castillo (2-5) and Ronny Gil (2-4, 2B, 2RBI) all had multi-hit games. Despite giving up 11 hits in the first five innings, starting pitcher Tim Cooney (1-1) collected his first win of the season. Cooney gave up 2 runs (one earned) while striking out one Jupiter batter. _____________________________________________________________________________________

The second game of the double header was a different story for the Cards, falling 4-3 marking the Hammerheads first win of the season. Starting pitcher Tyler Melling tossed five innings while giving up six hits, three earned runs, one walk and fanned four Hammerhead batters. Reliever Brandon Creath was credited with the loss (1IP, 2H, 1ER, BB).

Despite out-hitting Jupiter 10-8, the offense could not capitalize on runners in scoring position, stranding five.

James Ramsey (2-3, 2B, BB) and Cody Stanley (3-4, HR, 2RBI) combined for half of the Cardinals hits in the second game. Stanley's homerun came in the 3rd off of Hammerheads starter Jared Rogers.

Palm Beach will wrap up their series against the Hammerheads tomorrow , 1:05 p.m. at Roger Dean Stadium. Monday, the team will travel to Fort Myers to start a three game series with the undefeated Miracle (9-0).
