Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
Jupiter, FL - Aledmys Diaz and Greg Miclat crushed two big home runs to lead the Palm Beach Cardinals to a 4-3 comeback victory over the Fort Myers Miracle on Monday night at Roger Dean Stadium. The game was called in the seventh inning due to rain. The Miracle took two of three games in the series.
After falling behind 3-1 in the second, the Cardinals (30-20, 66-53) came storming back with two swift swings of the bat. Diaz launched a towering homer to left field with two away in the third to cut the deficit to 3-2. The solo shot was Diaz' second dinger in six games with Palm Beach this season.
Miclat put the Birds out in front with a two-run home run to left on an 0-2 pitch in the fifth. Nick Martini singled to center and scored on Miclat's first bomb of the year for the team.
The Cardinals are now tied with the Miracle for the most home runs in the league this season (74).
The score would remain 4-3 until play was called due to rain in the seventh inning. Thomas Lee (8-3) was terrific in relief of Silfredo Garcia. The right-hander allowed one hit in 2.1 scoreless innings to earn the win.
Byron Buxton accounted for all three Fort Myers runs. The top-rated prospect in baseball took Garcia deep in the first inning - a two-run blast to left field. Buxton was plunked by a Garcia fastball in the second with the bases loaded to make it 3-1.
Martini and Diaz teamed up to get the Cardinals on the board in the first inning. After Martini singled to the gap in left-center to start the frame, Diaz doubled down the right field line to bring Martini to the plate and make it a 2-1 Miracle lead.
Martini finished 3-for-4 with two runs on the night.
Matt Tomshaw (9-5) was charged with all four runs and took the loss for the Miracle (29-20, 70-48). He scattered six hits over six innings, walked three and struck out two.
The Cardinals start a six-game road trip on Tuesday, starting with a three-game set in Port Charlotte. LH Corey Littrell (0-1, 3.86) is set to make the start for Palm Beach. Follow the Cardinals on Twitter (@GoPBCardinals) for live updates.
