Cardinals Take Series Opener against Jupiter

April 26, 2022 - Florida State League (FSL)
Palm Beach Cardinals News Release

The Palm Beach Cardinals rode runs in the first and seventh innings to a 2-0 victory Tuesday night over the Jupiter Hammerheads. The matchup was the first of six between the teams at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium, with the Cards playing as the home team against their intra-stadium rivals.

Jupiter rolled out right-handed pitcher Dylan Floro, which served as a rehab start for the Miami Marlins pitcher. In 2021, the 31-year-old logged a 2.81 ERA and 15 saves for the Fish across 68 games and 64 innings pitched. But on Tuesday against Palm Beach, he surrendered an unearned run in the opening frame when first baseman Osvaldo Tovalin drove in left fielder Tyler Reichenborn on a fielder's choice.

The Cardinals added insurance in the seventh when right fielder Hansel Otamendi doubled to left field, scoring Jeremy Rivas with two outs.

Jose Moreno started for the Beach Birds and tossed four frames, before handing the ball to Ludwin Jimenez who claimed the win with two innings of work. Edgar Manzo earned a hold with two scoreless innings and Gianluca Dalatri recorded a three-out save in the ninth. Only three Hammerheads recorded hits on the evening, led by shortstop Kahlil Watson with two.

For Palm Beach (7-9), the series-opening win breaks a run of five losses in six games at Lakeland last week.

The Cardinals and Hammerheads return to action Wednesday night in Jupiter with a 6:30 first pitch. Inohan Paniagua (0-1, 1.69 ERA) is set to start for Palm Beach on the mound.
