Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
JUPITER, FL- The Palm Beach Cardinals came into the eighth inning trailing by one run, but the Fort Myers Miracle ended all hopes by scoring four runs and winning, 6-1, at Roger Dean Stadium.
The Fort Myers (22-17) eighth consisted of four runs, on five hits and an error, with third baseman Luke Hughes delivering the knockout punch with a two-run homer over the left field fence. The first four batters in the Miracle line-up went a combined 9-for-20, scoring two runs and driving in two.
Cardinals' starter Nick Webber scattered seven hits over six innings of work and used his defense well for crucial outs. In his five starts at the Dean, Webber has yet to record a decision.
Reliever Matt Scherer (4-2) came in to pick up the loss, allowing an RBI double to Garrett Guzman, knocking in lead-off man Alexi Casilla. Casilla finished the game with three singles.
Left-handed starter Kyle Aselton (4-1) picked up the victory, sailing through seven innings-allowing one run, on four hits, while striking out four. The win is Aselton's fourth in his last five starts.
The Cardinals (20-18) continue to struggle, as their May record drops to 4-11.
