(Tampa, FL) - Xavier Paul's 8th-inning squeeze bunt gave the Vero Beach Dodgers a lead they would not surrender in a 3-2 victory at Tampa Wednesday afternoon. David Nicholson went 3-3 and scored on the squeeze play that helped the Dodgers to just their second win in the last eleven games. The series ends Thursday night at 7:00 PM.

In a game that began at 11:30 AM, it took awhile for the bats to wake up. The teams were scoreless until Paul's bunt in the 8th. Nicholson smacked a one-out double and went to third on a single by Ryan Russ to set up the play. Jamie Hoffman then singled in Russ to make it 2-0.

Julio Pimentel turned in his best start of the season for the Dodgers. He entered with an ERA over 5.00, but held the Yankees scoreless for six innings. He scattered six singles and three walks, while striking out four. Wesley Wright turned in 1 2/3 scoreless relief innings for his first win.

The Dodgers added an insurance run in the 9th when Cole Bruce led off with a double and came home on a bloop single from Chris Westervelt. Bruce finished 2-4, his fourth multi-hit effort in his last six games.

Brian Akin notched his fourth save, though it came with some drama. After a strikeout began the bottom of the 9th, Ben Himes drew a walk. Jared Greenwood then singled. After a pop out and a wild pitch, Eduardo Nunez walked to load the bases. Cody Ehlers hit a hard grounder to third that appeared would end the game, but Carlos Santana's throw sailed past first base and scored two Yankees. After another walk to load the bases, Marcos Vechionacci grounded out to end the game.
