Palm Beach Cardinals News Release

JUPITER, FL- The ninth inning proved to be a difficult one to manage for the Palm Beach Cardinals, but they pulled off a 4-3 victory over the Vero Beach Dodgers at Roger Dean Stadium. With the sweep they end up winning the season-series, 12 games to 6.

Palm Beach starter Mitchell Boggs (9-6) tried for his second complete game victory of the year, but allowed the first two batters of the ninth inning to reach base. Boggs ends a three-game losing streak, throwing eight innings and allowing just three runs on seven hits.

Closer Mike Sillman (S, 26) allowed the two inherited runners to score, but allowed no further runs in order to pick up his Florida State League leading 26th save of the season.

The Cardinals struggled mightily against Dodgers starter Jonathan Meloan, as the right-hander tossed five scoreless innings and struck out six. He would be followed by reliever Albenis Castillo and his win would slip away.

Castillo allowed four runs in just 1 1/3 innings, with Palm Beach scoring 3 runs in the seventh. Randy Roth came up with the key hit, singling over the head of shortstop David Nicholson, scoring both Rayner Laya and Sean Danielson. The first baseman finished a perfect 3-for-3 on the night.
