Cardinals Defeat Williamsport

New Jersey Cardinals News Release


This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) crushed the visiting Williamsport Crosscutters 8-2. New Jersey goes up to 25-36 as the Crosscutters go down to 38-24. Winning pitcher Josh Brey (2-3) acquired the win, while De Maria (4-3) absorbed the Crosscutters loss. Brey threw 7 Innings, yielding 2 hits, 2 runs, all earned, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.

The Cardinals scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning and 3 in the bottom of the 7th inning. The Cards broke a 1-1 tie in the 6th with those 4 runs. Casey Grimm led off the inning with a walk. Melvin Falu singled which moved Grimm to third base before Billy Schmitt laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Grimm. After Joe Mather was hit by a pitch, Matt Pagnozzi hit a 2 run double to knock in Falu and Mather. Then Chris Tuttle grounded out which moved Pagnozzi to third base. A wild pitch was then thrown and Pagnozzi scored. Catrdinals also scored 3 runs in the 7th. Grimm led off again with a base hit. Billy Schmitt singled as well which moved Grimm over to third base. Pagnozzi then hit a 2 run single to score Pagnozzi and Billy Schmitt. Zack Smithlin walked and then Omar Pena had an RBI single to score in Pagnozzi

Casey Grimm went 3-4 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. Matt Pagnozzi was 2 -3 with 4 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Omar Pena was 3-4 with 2 singles, a double and 1 RBI.

The Cardinals finished their 8 game home stand with a 5-3 record. They are off tomorrow and then go on a 3 game road trip in Auburn against the Auburn Doubledays. The Cardinals return home on Sunday August 24th when they host the Brooklyn Cyclones at 5pm. It will be Chad Hutchinson bobble head day, sponsored by Renetco Shoprite and the Star Ledger. It will also be the Pepsi Cola Race Around the Bases.
