Auburn Doubledays News Release
JAMESTOWN, NY â On a warm Tuesday afternoon at Diethrick Park in Jamestown, the Auburn Doubledays slammed their way past the Jamestown Jammers 9-2 for their 47th victory of the season. Auburn's victory gives the Doubledays a 15-0 season series sweep over the Jammers who dropped to 15-46.
Doubleday bats exploded for nine runs on 15 hits against four Jamestown pitchers. Jammers starter Carl Primus (1-2) was sent to the showers after 3 2/3 innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Doubledays third basemen Ryan Roberts provided the knockout punch with a grand slam over the left-center field wall in the top of the fourth inning to extend Auburn's lead to 7-1. It was the second homerun Primus allowed in the game. Second basemen Carlo Cota ripped a two-run blast into the daytime sky in the top of the first inning giving Auburn a 2-0 advantage.
Cota led Auburn hitters going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored. Roberts ended the day 2-for-5 with four RBI. First basemen Erik Kratz ripped up Jamestown pitching going 3-for-3 with two doubles and one run scored.
Auburn pitching was solid once again against Jamestown batters yielding just two runs on six hits. Southpaw Kurt Isenberg (5-2) racked up his fifth win pitching five solid innings with one run on two hits with one strikeout. At one point, Isenberg retired nine batters in a row before yielding a walk. Jordy Templet relieved Isenberg going two innings giving up his first run of the season on two Jammers hits. Hard-throwing right hander Mark Sopko pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth striking out Jamestown Chris Thedorf to complete the Auburn sweep.
Auburn led 2-0 heading into the bottom of the first inning when Jamestown cut the lead in half. With two outs, Pablo Sosa singled for Jamestown's first hit of the afternoon. First basemen Ryan Bear ripped a double off the center field wall scoring Sosa all the way from first base cutting the lead down to 2-1.
Carl Primus would hold Auburn at bay in the second and third inning before the flood gates opened in the fourth. With one out, Primus walked Erik Kratz then gave up a single to Jarad Mangioni to put runners on first and second. Catcher Alex Blackburn then slapped a single scoring Kratz from second to augment the lead to 3-1. The very next batter Juan Peralta would single loading up the bases. Primus would retire Cota on a fly-out to center field to get the second out. But then Ryan Roberts belted a grand-slam over the left-center field wall that bounced off the second tier of signs at Diethrick Park. Auburn would not look back from that.
The Doubledays padded the lead in the top of the seventh inning against reliever Zach McCormack. Vito Chiaravalloti would walk to lead off the inning then was knocked over to second by an AJ Porfirio single. After a Christian Snavely strike out, Erik Kratz walked to load the bases for Jarad Mangioni. A McCormack pitch would get away from catcher Ryan Blake allowing Chiaravalloti to score from third giving the Doubledays a seven-run cushion. Mangioni would ground out, scoring Porfirio from third for Auburn's final run of the contest.
Jamestown would score the final run of the game later that inning. With runners on first and second, Jamestown's Chris Thedorf hit a chop to Juan Peralta at shortstop. The ball skipped under Peralta's glove allowing Mikela Olsen to score from second base for the second and final Jammers run.
