New Jersey Cardinals News Release
The New Jersey Cardinals all-time saves leader Roberto Batista climbed the baseball ladder this week, as he is now a member of the Peoria Chiefs. The Peoria Chiefs are trying to make a push for the playoffs in the Midwest League. With a 28-29 record in the second half, they trail the wildcard leader Kane County Cougars by 5.5 games in the Midwest Western Division.
This season, Batista (3-1) appeared in a league high 26 games and posted a 0.88 ERA for the New Jersey Cardinals. He only allowed three runs in 30.2 innings pitched. Batista never allowed an earned run on the road in the New York Penn League this season. The team was 17-9 in games that Roberto Batista pitched. Batista is the fifth 2003 Cardinals pitcher to be called up to Peoria. Bob Runyon, Rich Scalamandre, Buddy Blair, and Erik Drown are already members of the Chiefsstaff.
Roberto Batista owns a couple of records for the New Jersey Cardinals. Between the last two seasons, Batista compiled 24 saves in 53 games, both good enough for first all-time.
New Jersey wraps up a two game series, and an eight game homestand tonight against the Williamsport Crosscutters. On the homestand the Cardinals are 4-3 entering this evenings game. Tonight is the 2nd Annual Sussex County Hall of Fame Reunion sponsored by the Sussex County Hall of Fame.
