Cardinals and Ironbirds Go 11 Innings

This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) lost 3-2 in eleven innings to the Aberdeen Ironbirds (Baltimore Orioles). The Cardinals fall to 17-23 with the loss as the Ironbirds improve to 19-21. Brantley Jordan (4-1) took the loss for the Cardinals and Aberdeen's Tony Neal (2-1) picked up the win for the Ironbirds. Brandon Spillers earned his sixth save of the season for Aberdeen.

The Cardinals scored both of their runs in the second inning. With one out, Casey Grimm walked and Joe Mather doubled to put runners on second and third. Following a Kainoa Obrey foul out, Matt Pagnozzi hit a two run single to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead. The Ironbirds later tied the game and scored the winning run in the top of the eleventh inning. Cardinalsstarting pitcher Mark Michael pitched 6 innings allowing three hits and one earned run with eight strikeouts and no walks. Brendan Ryan extended his multi-hit game streak to five games with two hits on the night. Pagnozzi also had two hits for the Cardinals and drove in both runs.

The Cardinals will take on the Ironbirds tomorrow at Skylands beginning at 7:15 p.m. Tomorrow will be Dog Days sponsored by the Daily Record where fans can bring their dog to the game. There will also be a Top Prospect Card Giveaway #4 for the first 500 fans. The Pepsi race around the bases was also pushed back until Monday. Following the game, there will be a homerun hitting contest for $5,000 for three fans sponsored by the Daily Record.
