
Muckdogs Shock Doubledays

AUBURN, NY â On Sunday night at the friendly confines of Falcon Park, the Batavia Muckdogs were unwelcome visitors defeating the homestanding Auburn Doubledays 7-1. The loss drops Auburn's record to 31-9 however they still remain in first place of the Pinckney Division. Batavia's win is their first of the season over their Thruway rivals.
Muckdogs catcher Cory Von Tungeln led the Batavia offensive outburst going 3-for-4 with two RBI in the win. Third basemen Marc Tugwell, recently sent down from Class-A Lakewood drove in two Batavia runs as well. Left fielder Alex Borgo provided the biggest blow of all, a solo-homerun over the centerfield wall, over 400 feet away.
For the first time in seven meetings, Batavia pitching cooled off Auburn bats. Muckdog starter Joe Diefenderfer (4-4) pitched five innings giving up with one run, scattering six hits with three strikeouts. Relievers Zach Minor and Brad Overton only allowed one Auburn hit over the final two innings.
Doubledays left fielder Mike Galloway and designated hitter Alex Blackburn were the lone Auburn players with multiple hit games. Morrin Davis drove in the lone Auburn run in the fifth inning off Diefenderfer to cut Batavia's lead to 5-1.
Auburn starter Justin James (0-1) in his third start earned the loss going three innings giving up four Batavia runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
The Doubledays and Muckdogs play the rubber game of a three game series tomorrow night at Batavia's Dwyer Stadium. Auburn throws left hander Kurt Isenberg (3-1) against Batavia southpaw Kyle Parcus. Game time at Dwyer Stadium is set for 7:05 PM.
