Auburn Doubledays News Release
AUBURN, NY - On Saturday, July 26, the Auburn Doubledays announced that first basemen Clint Johnston has been called up to Charleston (WV) of the South Atlantic League.
Johnston was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1998 June Entry Draft as a left-handed pitcher out of Vanderbuilt University. The Blue Jays acquired Johnston in the 2001 Rule 5 draft from the Pirates and turned him into a first basemen.
In his second season with the Doubledays, Johnston was hitting .318 with one homerun and five RBI. Clint's homerun was a game-winning solo blast into the Atlantic Ocean at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark against Staten Island on July 23. Last year Johnston led the 2002 Pinckney Division Champion Doubledays with 41 RBI while hitting .242.
Charleston (WV) will be the third team Johnston has played for in the Class-A South Atlantic League. As a member of the Pirates, Johnston pitched for the Augusta Green Jackets in 1998 and Hickory Crawdads in 1999.
Clint is the fourth Doubleday to be called up to Charleston this season. He joins former teammates Eric Arnold, Marcos Sandoval and Charles Talanoa with the Alley Cats.
The Doubledays return home to Falcon Park to meet the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Saturday, August 2 at 7:05 PM. For ticket information please contact the Doubledays box office at (315) 255-2489. For additional information, log on to www.auburndoubledays.com.
