Batavia Muckdogs News Release

Batavia, NY - The Muckdogs led early and looked as if for once they would be able to defeat the Auburn Doubledays, but such was not the case on Saturday night. Auburn pulled away to win 5-2 in the end.

Joe Brunink singled in the bottom of the second inning and reached third on Marc Tugwell's double. With the bases loaded, Jose Cortez hit a sacrifice fly to right field allowing Brunink to score.

Leading 1-0 in the third, Tim Moss was hit by a pitch, then advanced to second on a fielder's choice and stole third base. Jake Blalock drove a long fly ball to left field that was deep enough to score Moss for a 2-0 Batavia lead.

That would be all she wrote for the Muckdogs in terms of holding an advantage. Auburn scored one in the top of the fifth inning, but it was the sixth that would prove to be the difference. Catcher Paul Richmond walked bringing Third baseman Ryan Roberts to the plate. Roberts took a Julio De La Cruz fastball deep over the left field wall to put the Doubledays ahead 3-2. Vito Chiaravalotti would triple on the next pitch and he would score when Clint Johnston's fielder's choice allowed Chiaravalotti to score.

De La Cruz (1-4)took the loss for Batavia. He had started the game with four innings of no-hit ball. The winning pitcher was Danny Core, who came on in relief of Doubleday starter Jeremy Harper.

The Muckdogs head to Auburn on Sunday, game time is set for 6:00pm. The game can be heard on 89.1 The Point at 5:45.
