
Captains Win Streak Extended to Five with 7-1 Victory

(Davenport, IA) - The Lake County Captains (14-11, 45-49) used a three run fifth inning to defeat the Quad Cities River Bandits (13-12, 48-46) by a final of 7-1. In the fifth, the Captains had the bases loaded and one out when Luigi Rodriguez hit into a fielder's choice; which scored a run. The throw to first was wild and that allowed a second run to score and it was 4-0 Captains. Luigi then took second with a stolen base. Rodriguez took third in a wild pitch and scored on a second wild pitch and Lake County led the game 5-0 after five innings. Lake County has now won five in a row for the second time on the season (May 12-16).
Lake County scored a pair in the top of the third inning. Alex Lavisky led off the inning with a double down the left field line. The next hitter Jose Ramirez tripled home Lavisky and it was 1-0 Captains. It became 2-0 when Francisco Lindor hit a double to deep center field and the score was 2-0 Captains.
Quad Cities scored a run in the sixth inning. The leadoff man Nick Martini and the second hitter of the inning Stephen Piscotty were both hit by a pitch to begin the frame. A fly ball moved Martini to third base and a groundout by Juan Castillo scored him and the score at the time was 5-1 Captains.
Lake County got the run right back in the top of the seventh inning. Lindor walked to lead off the inning, he took second on a wild pitch. Jordan Smith singled home Lindor and the Captains re-gained the five run lead at 6-1.
Lake County added on in the ninth inning, Jose Ramirez singled and moved to second on a wild pitch, he took third when the throw to second base skipped into center field. Ramirez scored on the third hit of the day by Jordan Smith and the score was 7-1 Captains.
LHP Shawn Morimando (4-2) started the game for the Captains and earned the win. Morimando pitched six innings, yielding just three hits, one earned run, with two walks and four strikeouts. Manny Carmona pitched two innings, he walked one and fanned two. Jeff Johnson entered in the ninth and did not yield a run while fanning two.
RHP Sam Gaviglio (5-7) got the start for Quad Cities. Gaviglio took the loss, after pitching four and two thirds innings and allowing eight hits, five earned runs, two walks and five strikeouts. Ricky Martinez entered in relief, and pitched two and one third innings. He allowed one hit, one earned run he walked one and struck out two. Ethan Cole also pitched for Quad Cities. Cole went the final two innings and allowed four hits, one earned run and he fanned three.
The Captains will continue the three game set on Thursday Night in Davenport, Iowa. The Captains will send RHP Mason Radeke (5-3, 3.12) to the hill to start against LHP Hector Hernandez (6-5, 4.31) for Quad Cities. First pitch is at 8:00 PM ET.
