Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - Alejandro Segovia and Jeff Malm both homered to back Jake Floethe's five shutout innings, and the Bowling Green Hot Rods (15-10, 53-42) beat the Kane County Cougars 5-0 (14-11, 48-47) at Bowling Green Ballpark. In the first game of the three-game set, Jake Hager and Drew Vettleson also added an RBI-singles as the Hot Rods won for the 12th time in 18 games.
With Floethe cruising early on, Segovia's solo home run put the Hot Rods in the lead early and for good. The Hot Rods catcher began the third inning with the longball that just cleared the wall in left field. Segovia's tenth home run this season slots him third on the team after Wednesday night's action.
Needing some insurance in the later innings, the Hot Rods were benefited with some. Ryan Brett began the sixth with a single up the middle and stole second base. Jake Hager then pulled a single down the line in left field to give Bowling Green a 2-0 advantage. Later in the inning after a Todd Glaesmann two-out double, Malm homered to deep right-centefield to place Bowling Green ahead 4-0. The long home run gives Malm 11 on the season, which is good for second place on the squad.
Vettleson's RBI-single came in the eighth in a game that was all but decided at that point. Hot Rods pitchers Jake Floethe, Jason McEachern, and Stayton Thomas combined to two-hit the Cougars in Wednesday night's nine innings. Earning the win, Floethe won for the ninth time this season, which ties him with his teammate Ryan Carpenter for the team lead. Both starters are tied for second place in the Midwest league in wins.
As the six-game homestand continues, the Hot Rods take on the Kane County Cougars on Thursday night at 7:05 PM for the middle game of the three-game set at Bowling Green Ballpark. The Hot Rods will give the start to LHP Ryan Carpenter (9-4, 3.48), while the Cougars will counter with RHP Angel Baez (5-2, 2.08).
