Captains Sweep DH from Power on Two Realini Walk-Off Hits

(Eastlake, OH) - Dustin Realini drove in the winning run in both games of the doubleheader on walk-off singles as the Captains swept the West Virginia Power on Wednesday at Classic Park. The Captains won game one 4-3 in eight innings and game two 3-2. Realini was 4-7 on the day with three runs batted in. The Captains (30-16) are now five games ahead of second-place Greensboro.

In game one, the Captains scored a run in the third inning off Power starter Evan Anundsen on an RBI single by Lucas Montero that scored Ron Rivas and the Captains led 1-0. The Power took the lead in the fourth inning scoring three unearned runs off Captains starter Ryan Morris. Caleb Gindl scored the tying run on a double steal of home and then RBI's by Curt Rindal and Scott Houin put the Power ahead, 3-1. The Captains cut the lead to 3-2 on Lucas Montero's third home run of the year in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Captains tied it at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Dustin Realini and won the game in the eighth on another Realini RBI. Neither starter would factor in the decision as Dallas Cawiezell (2-1, 1.52) picked up his second win in relief and Jose Garcia (1-2, 7.50) took the loss. Morris went seven innings allowing three unearned runs on six hits, walking two and striking out four.

The Captains took an early lead in game two when they scored two runs off Power starter Rob Bryson in the second inning. Mark Thompson singled home Jeff Hehr for the first run and Ramon Hernandez followed with a single that scored Ron Rivas and the Captains led 2-0. The Power would tie the game up in the top of the seventh off relievers John Gaub and Vinnie Pestano. Pestano inherited two runners by Gaub and they both scored, one on a balk and the other on an RBI single by Uly Snijders to tie the game at 2-2. The Captains would load the bases in the bottom of the seventh with no outs against Power reliever Reed Dickert (0-2, 3.97) when Realini would single and drive in his second walk-off winner of the day. Captains starter Joanniel Montero pitched five scoreless innings and did not factor in the decision. Vinnie Pestano (1-0, 0.98) got his first win of the year.

Game four of the five game series is Thursday with a special 11:05 AM start. The Captains will send RHP Chris Archer (1-6, 5.18) to the mound against the Power's RHP R.J. Seidel (1-3, 5.18). The game can also be heard on AM 1330 WELW, WELW.COM or CAPTAINSBASEBALL.COM.

The series and home stand concludes on Friday at 7:05 PM and there will be a post-game fireworks extravaganza. The Captains will travel to Lexington for a four game series with the Legends before returning home on May 28th.
