Jackets Rally Back for Win over Savannah

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (27-19) rallied back for a 2-1 win over the Savannah Sand Gnats (18-28) on Wednesday night for their second straight win. Starter Daryl Maday struck out a career high eight batters and Augusta plated two runs in the sixth inning to rally back from a one run deficit.

Trailing 1-0 Nick Noonan sparked the rally in the sixth inning with a two-out single. Noonan then stole second base after a pick off attempt could not be completed by Savannah. Noonan then swiped third base and scored on the throwing error from Savannah catcher Francisco Pena to tie the game.

Thomas Neal then walked, Garrett Baker followed with a single to move Neal to third and Villalona followed with an RBI single to right-field to give Augusta a 2-1 lead.

Maday (3-3) worked a career high six innings allowing just one run on three hits and no walks.

Savannah's one run came in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI sac-fly to right-field from Casey Craig scoring Jake Eigsti.

Daniel Otero recorded his 11 save the season allowing one hit in the ninth and striking out two.

Savannah starter Mike Antonini (3-2) recorded the loss allowing two runs on three hits over 5.2 innings. Antonini walked one and struck out a season high eight.

The GreenJackets and Sand Gnats continue their four game series on Thursday night with Augusta sending lefty Steven Calicutt (2-2, 3.82) to the mound. Savannah counters with right-hander Maikel Cleto (0-3, 4.65). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Game Notes:

Augusta improved to eight games over the .500 mark, a new high mark for the season.

Closer Daniel Otero has not allowed a run this season, a span of 17 games and 19.1 innings pitched.

The GreenJackets are 12-12 at home this season.

Villalona collected his team leading 11 double of the season in the second inning.
