Lake County Captains News Release
(FORT WAYNE, IN) - The Lake County Captains (27-24) and Fort Wayne TinCaps (20-32) needed 10 innings to decide a victor, with the Captains' scoring three in the tenth to take the win on a sunny Tuesday evening at Parkview Field.
Tanner Bibee had the best start of any Captains pitcher, going 7.1 innings. Bibee retired 20 of 22 batters faced with five 1-2-3 innings. The right-hander accumulated eight strikeouts, forcing nine flyouts and three groundouts over 80 pitches thrown. The 2021 5th Round Pick fastball maxed out at 99 miles per hour.
The Lake County offense had opportunities to score through the first nine. In the second inning, Petey Halpin led off with a single, he would be moved to second after a sacrifice bunt. Mike Amditis hit a ball to towards the left field wall that was caught by a leaping Oliver Basabe.
In the top of the sixth, seventh and eighth inning, the Captains had a base runner reach scoring position. Each inning ended with the runner left on.
The bottom of the ninth saw a push from the TinCaps. After only having two hits going into the ninth, Fort Wayne got two base knocks. Jordan Jones earned the first two outs and Zach Hart after allowing a walk to load the bases pushed the game to extra innings after a strikeout.
In the top of the tenth, Lake County broke through. Petey Halpin began the inning on second, and Christian Cairo walked. Raynel Delgado laid a sacrifice bunt to move both runners in scoring position. Mike Amditis then stepped up and rifled a ball over the second baseman's head into right-center field to score two runs.
Amditis would move to third after Angel Martinez was hit by a pitch and Joe Naranjo walked. He then scored on a wild pitch, to make it 3-0.
The TinCaps wouldn't go down without a fight. In the bottom of the tenth with two outs, an RBI single put Fort Wayne on the board. Then a walk and single back-to-back, pulled the score within one with the tying and winning run aboard.
Wyatt Hoffman would step up and loop a ball down the right field line, Cairo would extend his glove back and make the play at the line to end the game. Zach Hart would finish the game and earned the win.
