Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH) - The Bowling Green Hot Rods snuck past Lake County by a score of 2-1 on Friday night at Classic Park. The Hot Rods scored both of their runs in the first inning. The pair of runs combined with good pitching did the trick on a chilly night
In the first, Drew Vettleson singled and was quickly tripled home by Kes Carter. The Hot Rods were quickly up 1-0. Two batters later it was 2-0 as Cameron Seitzer singled home Vettleson. The two run lead was held up by the bullpen which was the story in the win.
The Captains cut the lead in half in the bottom of the sixth. With one out Jerrud Sabourin hit an opposite field double and then scampered home on the Todd Hankins triple. The score was 2-1 Bowling Green headed to the seventh inning.
Captains starter Will Roberts (1-1) was saddled with the loss. Roberts pitched 6 & 2/3 innings (the longest outing by any Catcher's starter this season) allowing just the two runs in the first, both runs were earned. Roberts also allowed just one walk and struck out seven (which tied a team high for one outing). Cole Cook entered in relief for the Captains. Cook pitched 2.1 IP, and allowed just one hit and also just walked one. Cook struck out two Hot Rods.
