Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Eastlake, OH - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (5-3) used two first inning runs, plus six, efficient innings from starter Parker Markel, to win 2-1 over the Lake County Captains (3-5) at Classic Park on Friday night. Kes Carter and Cameron Seitzer contributed the two runs batted in, and Parker Markel earned his first Class A win. The win, which took just two hours to complete, marks the third road win in-a-row for Bowling Green and clinches at least a series split in the four-game set with Lake County.

For the second consecutive night in Lake County, the Hot Rods struck first, scoring twice in the top of the first inning. Kes Carter got his team on the scoreboard when he tripled after a Drew Vettleson single. Later in the frame with two outs, Cameron Seitzer legged out an infield single that scored Carter, and the Hot Rods led 2-0.

The rest fell in the hands of Hot Rods starting pitcher Parker Markel, who was working in just his second career Class A contest. The Glendale, AZ native allowed four hits in six innings and finished just two over the minimum. Markel had faced the minimum through five frames before allowing an RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth.

Protecting a 2-1 lead going into the ninth, the Captains made it interesting against Hot Rods closer Austin Hubbard. With two outs in the frame and a runner at first base, the Hot Rods appeared to win when Alex Lavisky flew out to the warning track in left field. However, catcher Alejandro Segovia was called for catcher's interference, putting the winning run on first. Two pitches into the next at bat, Bryson Myles flew out to right field, and the Hot Rods won the game in dramatic fashion.

The team's first road venture of the season continues Saturday at Classic Park at 12:00 CDT. The Hot Rods will send LHP Ryan Carpenter (0-1, 5.14) to the mound, while the Captains will counter with RHP Joe Colon (1-0, 0.00).

The team returns to Bowling Green Ballpark on Monday, April 16 to open a three-game series with the Great Lakes Loons. That three-game series kicks-off a nine-game homestand at Bowling Green Ballpark. For ticket information for all Hot Rods home games, call 270-901-2121 or visit BGHotRods.com.
