Lake County Captains News Release

(Eastlake, OH) - A Brayan Rocchio two-run home run was not enough on Saturday night for the Lake County Captains (7-4), who lost to the Fort Wayne TinCaps (4-6), 4-3. It was the Captains' first loss at home this season, after they took the first four games at Classic Park against Fort Wayne.

The Captains got on the scoreboard in the second inning. Jonathan Engelmann reached first on a throwing error by Ethan Skender, then Raynel Delgado singled on a ground ball that bounced off the second base bag. Engelmann went to third on the play and came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Mike Amditis to put the Captains ahead, 1-0.

Captains starter Matt Turner silenced Fort Wayne over the first four innings. The lefty struck out five and limited the TinCaps to two baserunners on a walk and a single. In the fifth, however, Fort Wayne threatened and reliever Jared Janczak had to bail out Turner to keep the Captains ahead. Tirso Ornelas singled with one out and Turner walked Dwanya Williams-Sutton. Janczak came in and got the last two outs of the frame on a foul pop up to third and a strikeout to keep the Captains ahead, 1-0.

The TinCaps struck back in the top of the seventh when Jonny Homza connected for a solo home run to left field to even the score at 1-1. Agustin Ruiz followed with a single off the second base bag. A walk to Tirso Ornelas put runners on first and second. Justin Lopez gave Fort Wayne the lead with a sharp double down the right field line that scored both Ruiz and Ornelas to give Fort Wayne a 3-1 lead.

Mason Feole entered from the Fort Wayne bullpen to begin the eighth inning after Edwuin Bencomo spun four hitless frames. On his first pitch of the night, Feole hit Amditis to put the leadoff man aboard. Two batters later, Rocchio blasted his first home run of the season to the left field bleachers to even the score at 3-3.

Dwanye Williams-Sutton wasted no time in answering for the TinCaps. He led off the ninth inning with a solo home run against reliever

Nick Gallager to put the TinCaps back in front, 4-3.

Gallagher (0-1) took the loss in relief for the Captains. Across 2.2 innings, Gallagher allowed one run on three hits with five strikeouts.

Feole (1-0) picked up the win for Fort Wayne. He worked one inning and allowed two runs on one hit. Feole struck out two, hit one batter and walked none. Carter Loewen (2) threw a scoreless ninth inning and earned the save for the TinCaps.

The Captains and TinCaps wrap up their six-game series on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. from Classic Park.
