'Caps set to face Minnesota United FC in latest road test, WFC2 open up season

Meanwhile, Whitecaps FC 2 open their 2023 MLS NEXT Pro regular season campaign in their home opener against Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers2 on Sunday, March 26. Kickoff at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, BC is set for 7 p.m. PT - ONLINE: mlsnextpro.com

WEEKLY STORYLINES:

TRUE NORTH TO NORTH STAR STATE: After returning home from an extended road trip last week, Vancouver Whitecaps FC are set to prepare for another away match as they face Western Conference rivals Minnesota United FC this Saturday, March 25 at Allianz Field in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The Loons remain undefeated through their first three matches of the season (2W-0L-1D), while the 'Caps earned an important road point last week at LA Galaxy. The 'Caps recently faced the Loons in preseason back in February, capturing a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Julian Gressel and Ryan Gauld.

'CAPS STATLINE: Through the first four matches of the regular season, Julian Gressel sits tied for second in the league in assists with three, Ryan Gauld has tallied the joint-third most key passes in the league, and Andrés Cubas has the second-most tackles won in the league with 12. Overall, the 'Caps are third in the Western Conference in key passes this season with 36.

WFC2 SEASON2: Whitecaps FC 2 begin their second season in MLS NEXT Pro this Sunday, March 26 as they face Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers2 in their home opener at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, BC. This past offseason, a pair of former WFC2 players in Ali Ahmed and Simon Becher made the jump to MLS by signing first team contracts, while current players Vasco Fry and Levonte Johnson have already been called up to the first team on short-term agreements for last week's road trip. The team, led by new head coach and former first team assistant coach Ricardo Clark, will be looking to secure an MLS NEXT Pro playoffs berth for first time.
