Eight Loons Called up for International Duty

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Minnesota United announced today eight Loons have been called up to their respective national teams for the March international window.

Goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair rejoins the Canada National Team for the 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League games. Canada will play Curaçao and Honduras for Matchdays 5 & 6, followed by the semi-finals in June 2023. The league phase for Canada was temporarily postponed due to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which St. Clair and the Canadian National Team qualified for. Canada currently sits in second place with a 1-0-1 record and +3 goal differential, qualifying for the 2023 Gold Cup tournament.

Defender Michael Boxall will head back to New Zealand for a two-game series against the China National Team. These matches will be the first time the All Whites return to the pitch in 2023.

Midfielder Robin Lod heads back to Europe to join the Finland National Team to compete in the 2024 UEFA European Championship Qualifiers, with the top two teams of each group qualifying for the final tournament. Finland finished the 2022-2023 UEFA Nations League tournament with a record of 2-1-3, placing them in second behind Denmark in the Group H standings. Finland qualified for the 2020 UEFA European tournament.

Defender Kemar Lawrence will head to Mexico with the Jamaica National Team for their last match of the 2022-2023 Concacaf Nations League qualifiers. Jamaica leads Group A going into the final matchday with a 1-0-2 record and five points. If Jamaica wins, they will have clinched first in their group and will advance to the 2022-2023 Concacaf Nations League Finals and the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup.

Midfielders Kervin Arriaga and Joseph Rosales will join the Honduras National Team for their last match of the 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League qualifying round. Honduras leads Group C with six points and a 2-0-1 record. They will face Canada and fellow Loon Dayne St. Clair. If Honduras wins, they will secure their place in the 2023 Concacaf Nations League Finals among the three other qualifying squads.

Forward Bongokuhle Hlongwane returns to South Africa for an Africa Cup of Nations qualification match with the South Africa National Team. South Africa currently sits in second in the Group K standings.

MNUFC2 midfielder Molik Jesse Khan is set to join the Trinidad and Tobago National Team for 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League Group C contests. The Trinidadian team will first face the Bahamas before playing Nicaragua. Trinidad and Tobago hold a 3-0-1 (W-L-D) record and nine points in Group C play, sitting in second just behind the Bahamas.
