Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release
KANSAS CITY, KS - Vancouver Whitecaps FC's five-match unbeaten streak came to an end on Saturday night as they fell 3-0 to Western Conference side Sporting Kansas City at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas.
The 'Caps would start the match on the front foot, winning several corner kick opportunities and getting into good areas in Sporting's half.
In the 32nd minute, the Blue and White would get the first big chance of the match as Luís Martins whipped a left-footed cross to the back post for Sergio Córdova, who put his headed attempt narrowly over the net.
A minute later, Kansas City opened the scoring thanks to Rémi Walter's chipped finish into the roof of the net to give the home side the 1-0 advantage.
Just before the halftime interval, Sporting doubled their lead through Alan Pulido.
Following the break, Córdova came close to scoring once again as he found the ball in the box and sent a shot towards goal that was blocked on the line.
Kansas City got their third goal in the 53rd minute as substitute Erik Thommy smashed a loose ball into the net to make it 3-0.
Next up, the Blue & White return to BC Place on Saturday, July 8 as they take on Cascadia rivals Seattle Sounders FC in their first of four straight home matches. The game will also mark the 10th anniversary of the club's annual Pride Night. For tickets, visit whitecapsfc.com/tickets.
