Edmonton Capitals News Release
Chico, CA - Right fielder Tom Collaro hit his team-leading ninth home run of the season and starting pitcher Rory Shortell gave another stellar performance as the Edmonton Capitals closed out their nine-game road series against the Chico Outlaws with a 5-4 win on Sunday at Nettleton Stadium.
Appropriately enough, 5-4 ended up being the same score for the series as well, as the Caps had a four-game winning streak against the Outlaws turn into a three-game losing streak, which was snapped by Sunday's series-ending victory. Edmonton improves to 27-17 on the North American League season and remains just 0.5 games back of the Lake County Fielders for first place in the North Division.
The Caps' hitters did exactly what they do best on Sunday, as Collaro smashed his team-leading ninth home run, while left fielder Todd Linden drove in his team-leading 43rd run and first baseman Brent Metheny hit his team-leading 20th double. Catcher Lou Santangelo and third baseman Carlos Duncan also continued their hot hitting with two hits and one RBI each.
Shortell, meanwhile, has quickly emerged as one of the top pitchers in the entire NAL, as he won his fourth consecutive start on Sunday, scattering four runs on 10 hits over seven innings with five strikeouts to improve to 5-2 on the season. Relievers Brandon Villafuerte and Tom Boleska pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings, respectively, to finish off the victory.
The Caps have now completed nine games of their 12-game road trip and will spend Monday travelling from Chico to Calgary, where they'll play a three-game series against the provincial rival Vipers (25-20) Tuesday through Thursday at Foothills Stadium.
The Caps finally make their return to TELUS Field to host the Vipers and continue the battle of Alberta Friday through Sunday. The Friday 7 p.m. game is another Fireworks Friday presented by 92.5 JOE FM, while Saturday is a special 2 p.m. afternoon start. Sunday's game is also schedule for 2 p.m. and it's Cheemo Ukrainian Day, as well as Family Pack Sunday presented by Dental Choice and 630 CHED, as fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four Pepsi products for just $52.
The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Season seats start at less than $9 per seat. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
