Capitols Rebranding to Kodiaks as Part of What If Night Presented by MG&E
January 22, 2024 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release
MIDDLETON, Wisc. - As part of our annual What If Night presented by MG&E, the Capitols will be rebranding to the Madison Kodiaks for Saturday's game.
The Kodiaks played in the Madison area for one season from 1999-2000 as part of the United Hockey League. The team played at the Dane County Memorial Coliseum during their tenure in Madison before relocating to Kalamazoo and becoming the Wings. The Wings are the ECHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks.
In the team's sole season, the Kodiaks finished in third place in the Western Division, going on to defeat the Rockford IceHogs, now AHL affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks, in a best-of-three first round series. However, the Kodiaks lost their second round series to the eventual champion Flint Generals in six games. The team's leading scorer was Josh Boni with 99 points, and their leading scorer was Jim Doha with 43.
The jersey is an exact replica of what the Kodiaks wore during their one season. The jersey is based with a deep sea green and brown and black trim.
Madison's What If Night has become a staple of the Promotional Schedule for the Capitols with MG&E being the presenting sponsor for the third consecutive year. In 2021-22, the Capitols introduced the night by becoming the Madison Monsters. The night was such a hit that the team brought it back for the 2022-23 season. In the second annual event, Madison hit it out of the park by throwing it back to the Madison Muskies.
The Capitols are hosting the Tri-City Storm on Saturday for the annual What If Night presented by MG&E, and have a Dollar Beer Night presented by Coors Light on Friday night against the Storm, which is an expected sell out. Tickets for both nights are still available on tickets.madcapshockey.com.
Stay connected with the Madison Capitols on social media and the team's official website for the latest updates, news, and behind-the-scenes content as the team gears up for an exhilarating season ahead.
