Madison Capitols News Release

Madison, WI - The Madison Capitols filled out their inaugural roster through Phase 2 of the USHL Draft on Tuesday. The team now has 47 roster spots filled with players who will be on the active roster and on the team Affiliate List.

With their first round pick (eighth overall), the Capitols selected defenseman Matt Koch of the Wichita Falls Wildcats of the NAHL. The 19-year-old tallied 17 assists and 70 penalty minutes from the blue line for the Wildcats in 2013-14.

In total, the Capitols selected four Wisconsin natives on Tuesday in Phase 2: River Falls High's Billy Jerry, Sauk Prairie's Luke McElhenie, Madison Capitols AAA defenseman Mikey Butcher, and Waupun native & Milwaukee Junior Admiral defenseman Brendon Gysbers.

Those four players join Cole Hults (Madison Capitols AAA) and Alec Vanko (Oregon, Wis, acquired via trade Monday) as home-state roster members.

In addition, the Capitols also selected a second-generation player with a familiar name, choosing Eetu Selanne in the 21st round. He is the son of longtime Anaheim Duck great Teemu Selanne, who has won, among other accolades, a Calder Trophy and a Stanley Cup at the NHL level.
