
Saints Build for Future During Phase 2 of USHL Draft

Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, IA- The Dubuque Fighting Saints took a big step towards building its roster for the 2014-2015 season and beyond. Dubuque selected 23 players during Tuesday's Phase 2 of the 2014 USHL Draft, including 12 defenseman, nine forwards, and two goaltenders. Among the Fighting Saints draft choices were several NHL prospects as well as numerous players committed to NCAA schools.
Dubuque's first selection was Willy Lagesson, a 6-foot-2, 196-pound defenseman from Sweden. Lagesson skated last season for Frolunda J20 squad. In 44 games, he registered eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points. The 1996 born player was ranked the 18th best European skater by NHL Central Scouting for the 2014 NHL Draft.
Dubuque continued to bolster the blue line by taking Wyatt Ege in the 2nd Round. The Elk River, Minnesota native had 20 points for Faribanks of the NAHL this past season.
In the 3rd Round, Dubuque took big forward Beau Starrett from the South Shore Kings. Standing at 6-foot-5, Starett had 11 goals and 36 assists this past season. He is committed to Cornell University, and is an NHL Draft prospect, as he was ranked 79th overall among North American skaters.
The Saints 4th Round selection was David Cotton, a 1997 born player who is committed to Boston College. He spent the past season at Cushing Academy Prep School and is a native of Parker, Texas. Cotton had 49 points in only 31 games this past season.
