Capitols Enter the Stable Seeking First Win

Madison Capitols News Release

Madison, WI - The Madison Capitols (0-1-0) look to bounce back from a season opening defeat in Dubuque when they visit the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (2-0-0) on Saturday at The Stable.

Coverage begins at 7 p.m. and the game can be heard in its entirety on 106.7 FM, 1670 AM, The Zone. You can also listen online at www.madcitysportszone.com or on the TuneIn radio app by clicking here.

The RoughRiders, led by longtime head coach Mark Carlson, played six spirited games against Madison in 2014-15, winning four of the six battles, twice prevailing in extra time (including one shootout).

After beginning the 2014-15 campaign with a torrid 20-3-0 record, Cedar Rapids opened the new season in impressive fashion, defeating the Lincoln Stars 7-4 last weekend at The Stable before dispatching the Fargo Force, 6-1, on Friday night on home ice.

In each game, the Riders got balanced scoring, with no one player tallying twice in a game. John Snodgrass has led the way with two goals in his first two games for the Cedar Rapids attack.

The Capitols' offense burst out of the gates last Saturday in their season opener against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Head coach Troy G. Ward got contributions in his first game from forwards Guillaume Leclerc, Tyson McLellan, and Sam McCormick, who each buried goals in the first period to stake Madison to a 3-0 edge.

However, the first of two Dubuque shorthanded goals on the night, scored by Nate Sucese with less than a minute to play in the opening period, provided a major shift in game momentum. The Fighting Saints scored six of the game's last eight goals to storm back to take a 6-5 victory.

Leclerc did make some Capitols' history in the effort, tallying the franchise's first-ever successful penalty shot in the second period when he trickled a forehand shot through Hunter Miska.

McLellan added a second goal in the third period to tie the game, 5-5, before Trey Dodd notched the winner for Dubuque. McLellan, playing in his first game as a Capitol, scored just six times in the entire 2014-15 season playing with Waterloo.

The Capitols seek their first victory of the season in an abnormally quiet start to the season. Up until Oct. 9, Madison will have played just two games in the span of 14 nights.

The Capitols return home for the Home Opener, presented by River Valley Bank, on Friday, Oct. 9 against the Green Bay Gamblers. The game also doubles as the debut of the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board's Cheese Cup rivalry with the in-state rivals from Green Bay.

The first 1,000 fans in attendance on the 9th will receive a magnet schedule courtesy of DRS Paving. For the Home Opener only, the Capitols are also offering a $48 Family Four Pack. The package includes four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas, and four popcorns. Tickets can be purchased via www.MadCapsHockey.com or by calling (608) 257-CAPS (2277).
