Hawks Sustain Super Start

October 3, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Three first period goals sent the Waterloo Black Hawks on their way to a 5-1 victory Saturday at Young Arena against the visiting Fargo Force.

It was all Black Hawks in the opening 20 minutes. The home team dashed in front at 4:40 when Brandon Schultz swiped the puck behind the Force net and centered to set up a Nick Swaney goal. On the power play three minutes later, Sam Rossini's slap pass from the right point provided the opportunity for Yuri Terao to redirect an opportunity into an open side. Cameron Orchard capped the scoring at 14:21 sprung into the offensive zone on a breakaway by Alex Robert.

Marshall Moise scored the only goal of the second, capitalizing on a rebound in the slot at 14:30. Mikey Anderson's shot was fought off and flew high into the air; Moise capitalized, slapping the puck into the net from the slot off one bounce.

The Force broke up Cale Morris' shutout bid at 6:13 of the third when Zach Yon came from behind the net and fired a wrister under the crossbar from the right circle. However Ryley Risling reestablished the four-goal margin with 3.2 seconds remaining, slipping the puck into an empty net after dancing around a defender at the blue line.

Morris made 27 saves for the win, as Fargo outshot the Hawks 28-24.

The Hawks' next four games are on the road, beginning next Saturday in Green Bay against the Gamblers. The next Waterloo home game at Young Arena will be October 24th versus the Omaha Lancers.
