MIDDLETON, Wis. - The Muskegon Lumberjacks dropped game one of the weekend series to the Madison Capitols by a final score of 6-to-3 from Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena. The Jacks got goals from Ben Strinden and Emil Jarventie, but it ultimately wasn't enough as the Madison Capitols scored four unanswered goals in the third period to win their sixth consecutive game.

1st Period

Both teams seemed to be finding their footing for most of the first half of the period, but it was Muskegon's Ben Strinden who would break the ice at 8:10 of the period after beating Capitol goalie Simon Latkoczy. Strinden's third goal of the season was unassisted to make it 1-to-0 in favor of the Lumberjacks.

But the Capitols would respond at 13:48 when Tyle Haskins pushed one past Lumberjack starting netminder Jan Skorpik. Haskins' power play goal was helped by Nick DeSantis to even the score at 1-to-1.

With just over two minutes left, Jacks forward Emil Jarventie notched his first career USHL goal to give Muskegon the 2-to-1 lead. Owen Mehlenbacher recorded the lone assist for Jarventie's goal at 17:55 of the period.

At the end of 20 minutes, Muskegon took the 2-to-1 lead into the first intermission.

2nd Period

The only goal in the second period came from Caps forward Jack Musa at 6:19 of the middle period. Musa's fourth lamplighter of the season was assisted by Jack Horbach and Michael Quinn to tie the game 2-to-2.

After two periods of play, it was deuces wild as both teams skated to a 2-to-2 tie heading into the final period of regulation.

3rd Period

At 6:17 of the third period, Strinden potted his second goal of the game to give Muskegon a 3-to-2 lead. David Hymovitch scored the lone assist on Strinden's fourth goal of the year.

Alas, the Caps struck back to tie the game again, this time from Horbach at 11:09 of the final frame. Blake Dangos netted the only assist to even the score at 3-to-3.

Madison pulled in front for the first time of the evening, courtesy of Jake Dunlap at 13:44. Dunlap's fourth of the season was helped by Ben Dexheimer to make it a 4-to-3 lead for the Capitols.

Just 13 seconds later, Dunlap struck once again at 13:57 to add to the Madison lead, pushing the Capitols lead to 5-to-3. Dunlap's second goal of the game was assisted by Kyle Kukkonen.

At 17:28, Madison added another goal from Nathan Lewis, doubling their lead to 6-to-3.

In the end, the Madison Capitols scored four unanswered goals to take game one of the weekend series.

Both teams will conclude the weekend series on Saturday, Oct. 23 for game two. Puck drop is slated for 8:05 PM EST from Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena.
