Madison Capitols News Release

Green Bay, WI - The Madison Capitols (8-11-1-2) will look to erase the bitter taste of a third straight extra time loss on Friday in Dubuque as they travel to the Resch Center for a Wisconsin Cheese Cup tangle with the Green Bay Gamblers (12-9-0-1) at 7 p.m.

Both the Capitols and Gamblers enter play on Friday evening looking to break three-game slides. The Capitols have fallen in extra time in each of their last three contests, preserving three standing points. The Gamblers, meanwhile, have lost each of their last three games in regulation time, falling to fourth in the Eastern Conference standings in the process.

The Capitols began Green Bay's losing streak by knocking off the Gamblers 4-3 in the teams' last meeting at the Alliant Energy Center on Nov. 28. Alex Payusov, Guillaume Leclerc, Ryan Lohin & Haralds Egle got the Madison goals that evening and Garrett Metcalf was superb, denying 39 Gamblers shots and fending off a late rally to give the Capitols the victory.

Madison leads the Wisconsin Cheese Cup season series 2-1; both teams have held serve on home ice, with the Capitols winning both matchups at the Coliseum, while Green Bay topped the Capitols, 4-1, at the Resch Center on Nov. 17. Green Bay will have a lengthy stretch of play at the Resch Center, with eight of their next nine games taking place on home ice, where they have compiled a 5-3-0-0 record thus far.

The Capitols will have a burr under their saddle to begin play tonight, coming off a heartbreaking 3-2 overtime loss against Dubuque on Thursday. Madison took a 2-0 lead into the game's final 3:30 before the Fighting Saints rallied to tie the game with less than two minutes to play and eventually stole the win in overtime.

Nick Altmann made Capitols history on Thursday, scoring his first USHL goal on his first USHL shift. The Duluth, Minn. native is one of three Capitols who debuted last night in the absence of Leclerc and Haralds Egle (World Junior A Challenge participants).

After the fourth installment of the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board Cheese Cup between the Wisconsin rivals, the Capitols make a return trip home to rematch the Dubuque Fighting Saints on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.

The Saturday tilt is the second annual Teddy Bear Toss. Fans can bring new stuffed animals and chuck them onto the ice for the Capitols' first goal, with donations being made to Toys for Tots. Tickets are available by visiting www.MadCapsHockey.com or by calling (608) 257-CAPS (2277).
