PORTLAND, ME – The Washington Capitals named Dana White Strength and Conditioning Coach, Vice President and General Manager George McPhee announced today.

White joins the Capitals as the team's Strength and Conditioning Coach after spending two seasons with the Portland Pirates, in the same capacity. White will now handle responsibilities for both clubs.

Prior to his stint with the Pirates, White worked under current Portland Head Coach Tim Army as the Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim during the 1996-97 season.

"I've known Dana for many years and quite frankly I haven't seen anyone in the strength and conditioning area of the sport that is any more knowledgeable. He is outstanding and may very well be the best kept secret in professional hockey today," said Pirates Head Coach Tim Army.

White, who earned a master's degree in physical therapy from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, also worked at Kerlan and Jobe Orthopedic Sports Medicine Clinic in Los Angeles and for the San Diego State University and Boston College sports medicine teams before breaking into professional hockey. He is a native of Gloucester, Mass. White now resides in Kennebunk with his wife Nancy and three daughters: Rebecca, Gabrielle and Courtney.

The Pirates home opener is scheduled for Saturday, October 16, 2004, Hockey Night in Portland, at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
