
Capitals Assign Karl Alzner And Jay Beagle To Hershey

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Washington Capitals have assigned defenseman Karl Alzner and forward Jay Beagle to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
Alzner is a second-year pro who stands 6'3", 206 pounds. The Burnaby, British Columbia, native has played in 21 games for Washington this year and has five assists. He has three goals and 16 assists in 54 games for Hershey this season and is third on the team with a +35 rating. Alzner has played in 51 career games for Washington and has one goal, nine assists and only 10 penalty minutes.
Beagle, who Washington signed as a free agent in March 2008, stands 6'3", 204 pounds. The Calgary, Alberta, native has played in seven games for the Capitals this season and recorded his first NHL assist on Nov. 17 at the New York Rangers and his first NHL goal on Nov. 23 at Ottawa. Beagle has 16 goals and 19 assists in 65 games for Hershey this season. He has played in 10 NHL career games for Washington and has one goal and one assist.
