
B-Sens Earn Point in Adirondack, but Fall to Phantoms 3-2 in OT

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators kicked off the final week of regular season American Hockey League action with the first of back-to-back games in Glens Falls versus the Adirondack Phantoms.
7:50 into the first period, Binghamton defenseman Paul Baier was sent to the penalty box two minutes for slashing.
In the waning moments of the power play, the Phantoms jumped to a 1-0 lead at as Danny Syvret's shot from the point found its way to the back of Binghamton's net to put Adirondack up 1-0. Stefan Legein and Eric Gustaffson assisted.
With 6:02 left on the clock in the first period, the Phantoms would add to their lead going up 2-0. Zack Smith lost control of the puck along the boards in the neutral zone, which the Phantoms then picked up and carried down to the Binghamton end. Ben Holmstrom picked up the puck behind the net and was able to sneak it in low, stick side on Brodeur to put his team up by two goals. Jared Ross and Mika Pyorala tallied assists on the goal.
At 15:48 Ryan Keller went streaking into the Phantoms zone, firing a wrister past Phantoms net minder Brian Stewart to bring Binghamton back within one, 2-1, before the end of the period. Brodeur would earn an assist on Keller's goal.
Into the second period, The Phantoms' Jonathan Matsumoto is issued a four minute penalty for slashing Martin St. Pierre. On the ensuing power play, St. Pierre centered a pass for Ryan Keller, parked in front of the Phantoms net. Keller was then able to tip the puck past Stewart to tie the score at two. Josh Hennessy would also earn an assist.
Although holding the Phantoms to just seven shots through the first two periods of play, the Phantoms handsomely outshot the B-Sens 12 to 5 in the third period of play. Brodeur stopped all 12 shots to help earn his team the point, pushing the game into overtime.
Three minutes into the overtime period, Andreas Nodl sealed the deal, scoring his 12th goal of the season to give Adirondack the 3-2 overtime victory.
Binghamton returns to the Glens Fall Civic Center Friday, April 9 for a 7:30 p.m. rematch with the Phantoms. Fans can listen live on 680 WINR-AM or 1430 WENE-AM beginning 30 minutes before game time for Countdown to Faceoff with Grady Whittenburg, voice of the B-Sens.
