Brockton Rox News Release
QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC - (September 10, 2009) - The Brockton Rox have been backed into a corner by the Quebec Capitales as Quebec won game two in the best-of-five first round playoff series, 6-3, on Thursday night at Le Stade Municipal. Quebec leads the series, 2-0, and can wrap it up on Friday night in Brockton.
There were zeros on the board through the first three full innings, but Quebec would change that drastically in the bottom of the fourth. The Capitales would plate five runs on six hits in the fourth with all five runs being charged to Brockton starter LHP Craig Anderson.
Anderson went 3.2 innings in the game, allowing five earned runs on nine hits with two walks and six strikeouts. C Patrick D'Aoust and 2B Josh Colafemina would stroke RBI singles in the fourth, while LF Alex Nunez would drive in two with a single of his own.
RHP John Kelly would relieve Anderson to finish the fourth and then would allow a run in the fifth inning on an RBI double by D'Aoust which made the score 6-0 Capitales. Kelly would pitch 3.1 innings out of the bullpen, helping to stabilize the situation, surrendering just the one run on two hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
The Rox would score its first run of the contest in the sixth on a sacrifice fly off the bat of DH Palmer Karr, and then the team would battle closer with two more runs in the seventh inning to make it 6-3 Capitales.
Quebec starter RHP Michel Simard threw 6.2 innings, and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Brockton scored the seventh-inning runs on an error by Capitales RF Sebastian Boucher as well as an RBI single by RF Keith Brachold.
Relievers Jason Schutt and Derek McDaid combined for the final six outs of the game, as they did not allow a hit. McDaid earned the save with Simard picking up the win. Anderson was the losing pitcher for the Rox.
Game three on Friday night at Campanelli Stadium is a must win for the Rox as Quebec only needs one win to move onto the Can-Am League Championship Series for the second straight year. On the mound for Brockton will be RHP Jeff Long (6-4, 3.55 ERA) against Quebec's RHP Karl Gelinas (4-2, 4.34 ERA).
First pitch in Brockton is scheduled for 7:05 PM. You can get your tickets now online at brocktonrox.com or you can visit the Rox Ticket Office or call at 508-559-7070.
