Cape Breton Eagles News Release
Saturday, March 9th marks the thirteenth annual Cape Breton Screaming Eagles' Irish Jersey Raffle in support of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation. The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles will be sporting their custom designed green, Irish-themed jerseys, which are to be raffled off in support of the Cancer Patient Care Fund. The jerseys have been generously donated by Burger King Welton Street, Cape Breton Beverages and S&M Trucking.
In addition to the jersey raffle, this year fans will also have the opportunity to win a custom set of Bauer goalie equipment that will be worn by Screaming Eagles goaltender Kevin Mandolese.
"This will be my third Irish game with the Screaming Eagles," said Mandolese. "I was looking for a way to make this year's event even better so I approached Bauer about supplying a custom set of Irish themed gear that could be raffled off to support the cause."
The gear is valued at over $3,500 and will be displayed at the game on Friday, March 8th. Raffle tickets are available for ten dollars each and one hundred per cent of proceeds will be donated directly to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation due to Bauer's generous donation. The draw will take place following the Saturday, March 9th game. The winner will get to meet Kevin and also have the pads signed.
During the game on Saturday, fans will be able to purchase tickets for a chance to win one of the 23 green jerseys. Raffle tickets for the jerseys are only $5 each and will be available only at Centre 200. The winning tickets will be drawn during the third period and the winners will join the Eagles on the ice.
After thirteen years, this event has become an exciting time for fans, but it's very important for cancer patients in Cape Breton. "The dedication from this team is outstanding," says Brad Jacobs, CEO, Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation. "Their commitment to strengthening healthcare is amazing. Thanks to the team and their fans, more than $146,000 has been raised to support patients in our community."
This fundraiser is in memory of Greg Lynch. Greg, a community-minded man, was a hockey lover and leaves a great legacy with this event. To date, the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and their fans have raised more than $146,000. Dropping the puck at centre ice will be Greg Lynch's wife, Maureen Lynch, with Foundation Board member Mike Kelloway and special guest Leigh-Anne Cox, a thirteen year old cancer patient receiving treatment here in Cape Breton.
One hundred percent of proceeds from the raffle stay in Cape Breton to support the Cancer Patient Care Fund to support patients in the Cape Breton Cancer Centre. This fund helps offset the financial difficulties related cancer by covering the cost of prescriptions, medical travel, income replacement and other financial hardships cancer patients deal with every day in Cape Breton. To date, more than $2,000,000 has been disbursed to Cape Bretoners in need of this fund, with $363,000 going back just last year.
