Lethbridge Hurricanes News Release
Wednesday, October 29th, 7:00pm vs. Prince Albert - It's the second time in less than a week the Hurricanes and Raiders will play each other. Last Friday, the Hurricanes got goals from Taylor Cooper, Andrew Nielsen and Dexter Bricker in a 3-1 win. In 2013-2014, 2 of the Canes 12 wins on the season came against the Raiders with Riley Sheen leading the way last year with 4 points (1G, 3A), and Prince Albert native Bryton Sayers had 3 points (1G, 2A). *This game is also being aired on SHAW TV*
Friday, October 31st, 7:00pm vs. Brandon - It's the first time for the Hurricanes and Brandon Wheat Kings to face each other and this game, with 2 points on the line, will also feature a number of storylines. Friday is the first time players will face their former teams as Reid Duke and Macoy Erkamps were dealt to the Wheaties for Ryley Lindgren, Kord Pankewicz and Brett Kitt. Last year the teams made another trade that saw Ryan Pilon to the WK's for Nick Walters, Taylor Cooper and prospect Tanner Browne. This is the first of 4 meetings between the two clubs this season.
Saturday, November 1st, 7:00pm @ Kootenay - The Ice and Hurricanes meet 7 times this season and tonight is the first of those matchups. With the exception of an 8-1 loss to the Ice back on February 7th, last year's games were all close, including a pair of shootouts. The Hurricanes finished last year with a 2 and 4 record against Kootenay. Riley Sheen had the hot hand against the Ice last year with 7 points (4G, 3A) in their 6 game series. Giorgio Estephan added 2 goals and 3 helpers.
The week that was: For the first time since the 2012-2013 season, the Hurricanes went on a 3 game win streak. The team played 4 straight on the road starting with the defending champion Edmonton Oil Kings. The teams were scoreless through 40 minutes and Stuart Skinner had stopped all 35 shots he had faced up to that point. Tyler Wong scored less than 2 minutes into the 3rd and the OK's tied it up sending the game to OT. The extra 5 solved nothing and in the shootout, Jamal Watson scored the lone goal while all 3 Edmonton players were stopped. The win ended the Hurricanes 6 game losing skid.
Friday night started 3 games in 3 nights for the team as they visited the Saskatoon Blades. The Hurricanes scored early and often and never looked back in a 7-2 win. Lethbridge opened with a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes on goals from Zane Jones (2) and Carter Folk. Once again Skinner was solid in goal making 33 of 35 saves in the game. Carter Folk registered his first career hat trick and Kade Jensen scored his 1st career WHL goal.
The winning continued Saturday in Prince Albert. Getting the nod again was Stuart Skinner. Taylor Cooper opened the scoring in the first before Dexter Bricker and Andrew Nielsen added markers. Nielsen's goal in the 3rd was his first career WHL goal. The Hurricanes were 20 seconds away from Skinner getting his first career WHL shutout when Jayden Hunt scored, but more importantly the Canes skated away with a 3-1 win.
The hockey club wrapped up their road trip Saturday night in Regina. The Pats who handed the Hurricanes a 6-1 loss a week earlier, ended their own 4 game slide with an 8-1 win over the Canes. Lenny Hackman scored the lone goal while Skinner and Zac Robidoux split goaltending duties.

U17 Hockey Challenge: 1998 born goalie Stuart Skinner leaves this week to represent Canada's Team Black at the U17 Hockey Challenge scheduled for November 2nd - 8th in Sarnia-Lambton, ON. The tournament will be the first to feature three Canadian national teams - Black, Red and White.
NHL's Watchful Eye: 2nd year Centre, Giorgio Estephan has caught the eye of the NHL's Central Scouting Bureau. On the preliminary Draft Watch List for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, the 6'0, 184 pound native of Edmonton was listed as a WHL "C" skater indicating a 4th to 6th round candidate. Estephan was drafted in the 1st round (4th overall) by Lethbridge in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft and last year finished with 24 points (12G, 12A) in 64 games.
-NHL Camps: Nick Walters signed an Amateur Tryout Agreement with the Columbus Blue Jackets and attended their Prospects Camp in September where he competed at the NHL Prospect Tournament in Traverse City, Michigan.
-Oh Captain my Captain: Calgary native Jamal Watson was named the 24th Captain in franchise history. The 6 assistants are: Lenny Hackman, Riley Sheen, Nick Walters (home) and Zane Jones, Tyler Wong, Carter Folk (road).
-By the Numbers: The Canes have 27 on their roster: 2 Goalies, 8 Defencemen and 17 Forwards.
-Age Breakdown: 3 - 20 year olds, 5 - 19 year olds, 12 - 18 year olds, 5 - 17 year olds and 2 - 16 year olds. Rookies include (Nikita Milekhin, Pavel Skumatov, Jaeger White, Brandon Kennedy, Andrew Nielsen, Zac Robidoux and Stuart Skinner)
