SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries have signed RHP Chase Boruff to a contract and placed relief pitcher Josh Giles on the disabled list.
Boruff spent three seasons in the Kansas City Royals organization after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2010. The right-hander compiled a 5-10 record while in the Royals organization, racking up 119 strikeouts in 129 innings pitched. His best season came in 2011 while with the Royals Midwest League affiliate, the Kane County Cougars. Boruff finished the 2011 season with a 4-1 record with seven saves and 63 strikeouts in 41 relief appearances.

Josh Giles has been sidelined with several lingering injuries before being placed on the DL. Prior to his injury, Giles had not allowed an earned run since July 25th of last season. His stretch of scoreless baseball lasted 19 1/3 innings from July 25th of last season through June 2nd of 2014. He last worked in back-to-back games against St. Paul on June 9th and 10th, allowing 5 runs in two innings.
The Canaries return to Sioux Falls on Friday night opening up a seven-game homestand with a three-game series against their North Division rivals, the St. Paul Saints. Friday is AARP Night with the Canaries as they battle the St. Paul Saints. The first 3,000 fans will receive a Canaries/AARP koozie, compliments of the South Dakota AARP.
