SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries have signed catcher Matt Hitt to a contract and placed infielder Shelby Ford on the disabled list.
Hitt, 24, was originally signed by the Toronto Blue Jay's as an undrafted free agent in 2013 after spending two collegiate seasons at Eastern Michigan University.
Hitt spent part of the 2013 season playing for Toronto's Low-A affiliate, the Vancouver Canadians, making 37 plate appearances in 14 games.
In two seasons at Eastern Michigan, Hitt appeared in 87 games while posting a .232 batting average with 15 doubles, seven homeruns and 50 RBI.
