Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

FARGO, ND-The Sioux Falls Canaries entered the final day of their four-game series looking to pick up their first series sweep in Fargo. Redhawks starting pitcher Tyler Herron (2-2, 4.25 ERA) had other plans in mind, tossing a complete game shutout to pick up the 3-0 win on Thursday afternoon.

Herron faced the minimum through the first three innings before giving up a leadoff single to Jerome Pena in the top of the fourth. Pena advanced into scoring position after stealing second base, but was stranded with Herron retiring the next three batters.

The Righty-hander would allow just two more hits on the day, throwing 130 pitches, 90 for strikes on the way to the complete game win.

Jason Repko, Brian Humphries, and Pena each collected a hit, all singles, on a tough offensive day at the plate for the Birds'.

Canaries starting pitcher Jeremy Strawn (2-3, 4.07 ERA) suffered the loss after allowing three runs on eight hits over seven innings.

Zach Penprase paced the RedHawks offensive attack, going 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.

The loss dropped the Canaries to 14-14 on the season, and snapped their season best, three-game winning streak.

The Canaries return to Sioux Falls Stadium on Friday night in a three-game series against the Sioux City Explorers, who currently sit in first place in the American Association's central division.
