Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
After struggling to find any offensive rhythm in the first two games against the Wichita Wingnuts, the Gary SouthShore RailCats broke through for eight runs on 11 hits in the first and second inning Thursday to help salvage the homestand finale.
Wingnuts starter Scott Kuzminky gave up all eight runs and was pulled after 1.2 innings.
'Cats starter Chris Cummins stayed true to the path as the SouthShore rotation came nicely during the six-game homestand. Cummins gave up one run through the first five innings before the 'Nuts (16-9) put a four-spot on the board in the sixth.
The bullpen came on to pick up Cummins when he began to scuffle, allowing only one run over the game's final 3.1 innings.
All but one RailCats (14-12) batter had at least one hit on the day and five 'Cats batted a run in. Adam Taylor, J.D. Pulfer and Michael Vaughn each had two RBI in the contest.
Wingnuts third baseman Dustin Geiger helped power his team back into the ballgame with two home runs and three RBI. It was the first multi-home run game against the RailCats this season.
Andy Loomis came on and worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning, earning his seventh save in as many opportunities.
