
Canaries Fall 7-2 in Rain-Shortened Contest on Sunday Afternoon

SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries (30-50) wrapped up their three-game series against the Gary-Southshore RailCats (37-42) on Sunday afternoon, but not before a 3 1/2 hour rain delay. The rain stopped long enough for the game to start, but lasted just five innings, with the Canaries falling by the final score of 7-2 at Sioux Falls Stadium.
Starting pitcher Shawn Blackwell (2-9, 4.40 ERA) suffered the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits over five innings. The right-hander walked three batters and recorded three strikeouts in the rain-shorted outing.
Angel Chavez provided the only run support of the night for the Birds', driving in a pair of runs with a two-out, two-run single into left-field. Jason Repko and RJ Perucki reached base on back-to-back walks, and scored the only two runs of the night on the Chavez single.
The Canaries have an off-day on Monday, but continue their six-game homestand on Tuesday night as they open up a three-game series against the Laredo Lemurs at 7:05 PM. Left-hander, Miguel Pena (6-6, 3.15 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Birds' in the series opener.
Tuesday night will be another "Give Back Tuesday" at the Birdcage presented by Feeding South Dakota. Fans will have the opportunity to donate a canned good or non-perishable food item at Sioux Falls Stadium and receive buy one, get one free tickets to Tuesday night's game.
Fans can catch all the action home and away on AM-1230, FM-98.1, Sioux Falls Sports Radio KWSN. Pre-game coverage will begin at 3:45 PM as the "Voice of the Canaries" JJ Hartigan will bring all the latest news related to Canaries baseball.
