
Canaries bats shutout, 2-0

Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Canaries (16-32) ended the first half with strong pitching performances from Matt Koziara and Robert Barrett, but could not score the runs needed to overcome a 2-0 loss to the Sioux City Explorers (24-24). Billy Keppinger threw a complete game two-hit shutout on the final day of the first half.
Sioux City got on the board in the fifth inning. Zach Pace walked and scored on a double by Jorge Moreno for a 1-0 lead.
In the sixth inning, Chris Grossman got aboard on a fielding error by Jason Sugden and then scored on a groundout by Mike Richardson for the 2-0 final.
Koziara (1-1) pitched six innings allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits. Barrett came on in relief and gave the Canaries a chance to win by pitching three shutout innings. The Canaries bats could not overcome Keppinger (4-3), who went the distance striking out five and walking one in the win.
The Canaries will head south where they open the second half with a three game series against the Pensacola Pelicans on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
