Canadians Let Guard Down Helping Boise To 5-3 Victory
August 25, 2015 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - Nine walks and a host of errors proved too much for the Vancouver Canadians to overcome, seeing its three-game winning streak snapped on Monday in a 5-3 loss to the Boise Hawks out at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium.
The Boise Hawks grabbed an early lead, taking advantage of three walks off Canadians starter LHP Angel Perdomo in the first inning that ultimately helped CF Brian Carroll circle around to score the first run of the game.
The Canadians answered quickly back after CF Andrew Guillotte, who was hit by a pitch, managed to steal second and then score on a line drive to center field by C Ryan Hissey tying the game at 1-1.
The Hawks reclaimed the lead in the top of the 5th inning, but once again the Canadians wasted no time in matching the run. It would be Guillotte again to cross the plate in the bottom of the inning, scoring on a wild pitch by RHP Logan Sawyer to tie the game at two apiece.
Boise broke the stalemate with a three-run 7th inning. Canadians reliever Turner Lee was unable to get out of the frame, pitching just a 1/3 of an inning, before Michael Kraft stepped in and struck out the final two batters.
The exchange of runs continued into the bottom of the 7th inning when 2B Ryan Metzler scored on a hard hit drive to center by 1B Justin Atkinson, pulling the Canadians to within two, but they would be unable to match the Hawks for a final score of 5-3.
Boise starter RHP Logan Sawyer gave up two runs in his 6.0 innings of work, while striking out six.
The Vancouver Canadians and Boise Hawks are back in action on Tuesday, August 25th where Jon Harris will make his 11th start of the season, first pitch at 7:05PM.
Notes: Ryan Metzler extends his hitting streak to 15 games... With the loss the Canadians drop to 13-12 (.520)... Division leading Everett AquaSox lost 4-3 to Boise, Canadians remain within 1 1/2 games of the lead in the North Division... Vancouver's sellout is the 17th of the season, tops in the Northwest League.
