(Memorial Stadium - Everett, WA) - A two-run home run from Canadians CF Tanner Kirwer pulled Vancouver to within a lone run of Everett, but the Aquasox were able to fend of the C's for a series opening 4-3 victory on Wednesday night down in Washington state.

Everett opened the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd inning when Canadians starter RHP Jose Espada (0-3) hung a pitch out over the plate that Aquasox CF Jansiel Rivera hit over the left field fence for his 4th home run of the season giving the home team an early 1-0 lead.

The Canadians responded with a run in the top of the 3rd inning when 2B Brandon Polizzi scored on an RBI single off the bat of SS Vinny Capra. Polizzi had reached earlier in the inning on a fielder's choice.

It remained 1-1 until the bottom of the 6th inning when Everett struck for three runs that included a base hit from C Geoandry Montilla that cashed in 2B Matt Sanders (double) which would prove to be the winning RBI as despite a two-run home run from Canadians CF Tanner Kirwer in the top of the 7th inning, Vancouver couldn't overcome the three run deficit to make the final 4-3 Aquasox.

C's starter RHP Jose Espada falls to 0-3 on the season with a 6.75 ERA as his troubles in the bottom of the 6th left still searching for his first win of the summer. RHP Cody Mobley grabbed the win after an impressive 4 2/3 innings of work allowing a pair of earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts. RHP Noah Zavolas struck out four of the final five Canadians he faced to secure his second save of the season.

With the loss, Vancouver falls to 8-12 (.400) on the season while the North Division leading Aquasox improve to 12-8 (.600) with game two of this three-game series set for Everett's Memorial Stadium on Thursday, July 5th at 7:05pm. The game can be heard right here at www.canadiansbaseball.com.

Vancouver returns to Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Saturday, July 7th at 7:05pm to host Spokane for a three-game series with tickets available by calling 604.872.5232, online at www.canadiansbaseball.com or by visiting the Nat Bailey Stadium Box Office at 4601 Ontario Street, Vancouver, B.C.
