July 19, 2015 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - The Canadians had the winning run just 90-feet away in the bottom of the 8th inning and had another opportunity in the bottom of the 9th inning but couldn't find the knockout punch as back-to-back doubles from Blake Headley and Adonis Paula helped Eugene snap Vancouver's three-game winning streak with a 4-3 victory in 11-innings.
Sean Hurley opened the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd inning slamming his NWL leading 7th home run of the season into the "hey y'all!" porch giving the Canadians an early 1-0 lead.
Shortly after Emeralds center fielder Ian Happ grabbed a one-out double, he would come around to score on a base hit from Matt Rose. That run would be the only one allowed by Canadians right-hander Jon Wandling over his seven innings of work.
After Eugene recorded a run in both the top of the 8th and 9th innings to take a 3-1 lead, Vancouver rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom of the 9th to send the game to extra innings. The catalyst, a double from Earl Burl III that scored pinch-runner JC Cardenas. Kevin Garcia would single home Burl III, advancing to second on the throw that challenged Burl III at the plate. Rolando Segovia would pinch-run for Garcia, advancing to third base on a Tyler Peitzmeier wild pitch with just one out. Pinch-hitter Lane Thomas would strike out and Andrew Guillotte would ground out stranding the winning run at third base.
Eugene would send the sellout crowd home in the top of the 11th inning when back-to-back doubles from Blake Headley and Adonis Paula helped Eugene snap Vancouver's three-game winning streak with a 4-3 victory in 11-innings.
Note: With the loss, Vancouver falls to 0-2 (.000) in extra-inning games.
