
Tri-City Drops Home Opener to Salem-Keizer

The Tri-City Dust Devils got off to a rough start to a pivotal home series as they were shut out against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in a 1-0 loss. The Dust Devils (16-14) matched the Volcanoes (17-13) in hits but Salem-Keizer got the only run of the game in the second inning, which proved to be the difference in the contest.
Ty France had two hits for the Dust Devils, while Carlos Belen and Justin Pacchioli were the only Dust Devils to not record a hit on the night.
Kevin Rivera and Scott Price did most of the damage for Salem-Keizer, collecting two hits apiece.
Tri-City starting pitcher Brett Kennedy (0-1) had a short outing in the loss for Tri-City. Kennedy pitched two and two thirds innings, striking out five batters while giving up the lone run of the game on three hits. Griffin Russell had the longest outing in relief of Kennedy, pitching two and one third innings, striking out three and giving up two hits.
Starting pitcher Mike Connolly (2-1) was great in the win for Salem-Keizer. Connolly pitched six innings, striking out seven, walking one batter and giving up five hits. Cory Taylor earned the save in relief of Connolly. Taylor pitched three innings, struck out seven and gave up only three hits.
The Dust Devils will play the second game of their five game series against the Volcanoes Sunday night at Gesa Stadium. There will be a Youth Baseball Clinic before the game from 4 p.m.- 6.p.m. where kids will have the opportunity to join the Dust Devils players on the field thanks to Lourdes Health Network. Andrew Suarez (0-0) is scheduled to start for Salem-Keizer while Walker Lockett (2-0) gets the start for Tri-City.
