WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder lost 4-1 to the Rapid City Rush at the Kansas Coliseum on Wednesday night.
Colt King gave the Rush a 1-0 lead at 5:17 in the first, tipping in a shot from Tim Branham. Luke Erickson's power play wristshot from the slot at 7:47 in the first made it 2-0. The Thunder got back into the game later in the period when Mike Batovanja connected on a rebound setup by Brad Thompson at the 16:46 mark.
The Rush took a 3-1 lead on Jamie Vanderveeken's power play goal at 4:34 in the third period and then put it away when Blaine Jarvis scored on an empty net with 21 seconds left in the game.
Scott Campbell took the loss, saving 25 of 28. Wichita outshot Rapid City 35 to 28. The 35 shots are a new season high. Wichita's power play went 0 for 6. The Thunder is now 0 for its last 31 on the man advantage.
The Thunder continues play on Friday when they open a two-game series at Missouri.
